When Christmas Decor Goes Too Far… or Maybe Just Far Enough

When Christmas Decor Goes Too Far… or Maybe Just Far Enough

Every year, without fail, Christmas takes over my home like it pays the rent. And I’m not even mad about it, in fact, I’m probably the one enabling it. But this year? Oh, this year we may have officially crossed into “Ma’am… do you live inside a holiday attraction?” territory.

As you can clearly see, we now have life-sized Mickey and Minnie standing proudly next to our Christmas tree. Not tiny figurines. Not cute tabletop décor. I’m talking giant, cheerful, slightly-judgmental, fully-ready-to-start-singing animatronic Mickey and Minnie Mouse keeping guard over the living room like the Disney Secret Service.

(is it too much?)

You know how some people decorate with a theme? A color palette? A subtle vibe?
Yeah… well… we don’t do subtle here. We do Disney Christmas Extravaganza 2025, complete with glowing lights, oversized candy canes, and enough peppermint stripes to open our own Santa-approved candy shop.

But let me start by saying something important, I absolutely love Christmas. Love it. LOVE it. Like… I-wait-all-year-for-this love it. This is my season. My holiday Super Bowl. My personal Broadway opening night. So when December hits, the creativity and joy just explode in this house. And apparently this year that explosion resulted in a nine-foot Disney tree and two cartoon icons who now basically live here rent free.

The Tree That Could Probably Be Seen From Space

Now, let’s talk about this tree, because honestly, she deserves her own award. The lights are so bright and colorful that I’m fairly certain pilots flying overhead could use it as a navigational beacon. If NASA contacted me asking if I purposely tried to outshine the stars… I wouldn’t even blame them.

Every branch is packed, PACKED, with Disney ornaments, candy ribbons, bows bigger than my actual head, and tiny characters peeking out like they’re hiding from Goofy. You can’t even call it a theme anymore. It’s a full Christmas amusement park.

And then, just when you think the tree has reached its maximum potential… in walk Mickey and Minnie.

The New “Security Team”

There they stand. Mickey with his welcoming arm gesture like he’s about to introduce the next act in a holiday parade, and Minnie looking adorable in her little winter dress like she’s ready to tap-dance into a Christmas special.

They’re standing guard on the fireplace like two holiday bouncers:
“Sir, if you’re not on the Nice List, you can’t come in.”

Honestly, I half-expect them to start moving at night. I’ve already mentally prepared myself for the day the lights flicker and Mickey turns his head slightly and says, “Hot dog! Merry Christmas!”

If that ever happens, I’m grabbing my coffee, sitting down, and accepting that this is my life now.

Is It Too Much? … Maybe.

Do I possibly have too many decorations?
Could be.
Am I concerned?
Absolutely not.

Because the truth is, this makes me SO happy. Christmas is my favorite time of the year. It brings out a joy in me that’s unmatched. There is something magical about transforming your home into a place that feels whimsical and warm and a little ridiculous in the best possible way.

Some people collect antiques. Some people collect plants.
I collect Christmas joy… and apparently large Disney characters.

Only Time Will Tell How Big This Gets

If I’m being honest, this is probably just the beginning. If you think these decorations are “a lot,” just wait. I have ideas. I have plans. I have Pinterest boards that should honestly be reported for excessive enthusiasm.

Will next year include a full-size animatronic Goofy?
A singing holiday train?
A giant inflatable castle in the front yard?

I’m not saying yes…
But I’m also not saying no.

Decorating for Christmas is my happy place. It’s my creative outlet. It’s the one time of the year where “too much” doesn’t exist. And the truth is, I love every sparkling, glowing, peppermint-scented inch of it.

So for now, Mickey and Minnie will continue standing proudly by the tree, ready to burst into a Christmas carol at any moment, and I’ll continue living my best festive life. And who knows… maybe next year will be even bigger, brighter, and more magical.

Honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way.
